Our Food Ethos

A note from head chef, james pilcher

At The Ferry House, great food starts long before it reaches your plate. We grow our own produce in our kitchen garden, forage from hedgerows and shorelines, and source eggs and beef from our family farm just up the road, where livestock graze on the salt marshes of Elmley Nature Reserve.

Wild game comes from the Harty estate, shot in season and prepared in-house, while our onsite butchery is key to our nose-to-tail ethos and ensures nothing goes to waste.

Our farm’s grain even goes into Copper Rivet Distillery’s award-winning spirits—perfect to pair with your meal.

It’s all about fresh, local ingredients and knowing exactly where your food comes from—that’s what makes dining here so special.

2AA ROSETTE AWARDED RESTAURANT & TASTE OF KENT WINNER 2018 & 2014

“The winner is Kent to its core, local everything from cider to the cows grazing in the surrounding land, served with top end personal service by staff whose knowledge of the local area was as if they were born and raised there. “Quite simply the best all round experience shouting Kent”

The Ferry House didn't disappoint and I enjoyed the couple of nights I spent there.

The Ferry House is a very pretty place in a wonderful environment. I wanted to relax and do 'nothing' for a couple of days, so I went on short walks, looked at the river, the birds and was served delicious food by very nice, friendly and professional staff. I really felt welcomed which was important to me as I travelled alone.
I see The ferry House is geared up for weddings and if I was to be wedded, I would definitely consider this place for my special day.

Beautiful stay and great food! Can’t wait to return!

A night away with family and the dogs to celebrate a birthday.
We stayed in the new rooms behind the main bar. The room was super spacious, cold out beds for the kids which they loved and a really nice dog bed, treats and bowls welcome pack for the dogs.
Then owners have invested in the small details, really nice toiletries, with great selection (Noble Isle) and a treat to return to our room after a walk and a beer to fine some little ginger cake for each of us. 👌 nice touch!
Dinner was excellent, fancy menus but actually simple and all the produce either grown in the kitchen garden or sourced locally.
Breakfast wow! 10/10!

Late summer lunch stop

Stopped by for lunch and was blown away by the quality of the food on offer. Fresh ingredients and wonderful cooking. Very reasonably priced too.

An unforgettable spot overlooking the water and the benefit of guests gathering for a wedding to give a special vibe and colour.

Highly recommend and will come again
