Our Food Ethos

A note from head chef, james pilcher

At The Ferry House, great food starts long before it reaches your plate. We grow our own produce in our kitchen garden, forage from hedgerows and shorelines, and source eggs and beef from our family farm just up the road, where livestock graze on the salt marshes of Elmley Nature Reserve.

Wild game comes from the Harty estate, shot in season and prepared in-house, while our onsite butchery is key to our nose-to-tail ethos and ensures nothing goes to waste.

Our farm’s grain even goes into Copper Rivet Distillery’s award-winning spirits—perfect to pair with your meal.

It’s all about fresh, local ingredients and knowing exactly where your food comes from—that’s what makes dining here so special.

Latest Garden News

Winter’s best produce is still on our menu, but spring is already sprouting in the garden. Fresh herbs, aubergines, chillies, and tomatoes are thriving in the greenhouse, while sweet peas and perennials start to bloom, ready to brighten our restaurant tables. Our artichokes are standing tall, inspiring dishes like the Garden Artichoke Blondie—just one way we get creative with what we grow.

Seasonal Updates

Spring brings new life to our family farm as calves and their mothers will move from straw pens to fresh pasture in April. Natural grass grazing keeps them healthy and enhances the quality of the beef we serve at The Ferry House. Our sustainable approach goes further—grain from our farm is sent to Copper Rivet Distillery and returned as cattle feed, closing the loop for the benefit of both the animals and the environment.

2AA ROSETTE AWARDED RESTAURANT & TASTE OF KENT WINNER 2018 & 2014

“The winner is Kent to its core, local everything from cider to the cows grazing in the surrounding land, served with top end personal service by staff whose knowledge of the local area was as if they were born and raised there. “Quite simply the best all round experience shouting Kent”

Always delicious

We have been here plenty of times before and every time it is lovely. The food is always so delicious. This time we both had all vegan food which was so tasty. Staff are always friendly. It's also dog friendly! Would always recommend this restaurant.

AMAZING.

Beautiful pub. Friendly staff and fantastic food. I had the roast beef which was so tender and tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Our waitress was brilliant. Very attentive and could answer all our questions. Always had a smile on her face. The rest of the staff also very friendly.

Superb Sunday roast!

We booked a roast dinner at The Ferry House to celebrate my husbands birthday. We can never find anywhere decent to eat a good Sunday roast but this place came highly recommended.

It was such an informal, relaxed atmosphere with beautiful surroundings. The starters (venison croquette and partridge) were excellent so we knew the roast would be good. When the roast came, it surpassed our expectations. The beef was of the highest quality and had so much flavour. My 7 year old ate all of his and he rarely finishes a meal!

We will definitely be back, thank you to the staff for a great experience.

Father’s Day Breakfast

We took my Dad here for Father’s Day.

It’s so beautiful. My partner & I are coming back for Valentine’s Day next year.

The food really is wonderful.

You get so much for your money.

It’s £17.50 per person. This includes unlimited juices, teas, coffees, cereals, yoghurt, fruit & toast (which you help yourselves too), & you choose an item from their menu. I had the corned beef hash brown, I think my Mum had the shakshuka (the photo with the flowers), & my Boyfriend & Dad had a full English.

Beautiful view. I highly recommend.
